Although the shrines were wonderful, I and many people I talked with during and after the trip, we’re disappointed with the level of communication during travel, the proper coordination of the travel timing, the bus and bus company, and the information provided to us as we were about to leave for home. I as others did asked people what I could pray for for their intentions at the various shrines during the masses, and then needed to report that we had missed mass on the first day at the Divine Mercy Shrine. Upon arrival, we expected that the mass for us as pilgrims would be starting late, and we’re shocked to find that we either entered halfway through mass, had no seating, or missed mass completely. The planning team did not communicate this to the buses during transit. It appears that there was poor communication regarding the ETA of the buses and it would’ve been nice if someone notified the buses of what to expect upon arrival and could possibly have facilitated a rosary on the bus since we’d be missing it at the Shrine. The bus ride itself was quite herky jerky, the driver didn’t arrive early causing a late departure, missed the parking area at St. Thomas More despite a map with a red circle, didn’t know the Wi-fi password, never gave us the standard safety talk, and for some unknown reason, the driver went through an abandoned bank parking lot in Fishkill New York needing to back up multiple times, including backing up into a tree before finally parking at the McDonald’s parking lot. Later that day the bus driver went the wrong way to drop us at our hotel and had to drive several blocks and go around before arriving in front of the hotel. The bus itself had uncovered light sockets that forced air through them, and had to be duct taped during the trip and no comforts, such as cupholders. The center overhead bins were locked and could not be used, and when one of the other overhead bins were used, one of the strips fell down. It was surprising at the hotel that the room keys were not organized by room number causing a long line of people waiting while they looked through stacks of key cards each time someone checked in. Otherwise, the hotel rooms were very comfortable, and it was a wonderful accommodation to also have breakfast in the ballroom. At the Kateri site, we were told we would receive prayer cards, but when we asked upon exiting, we were told sorry they are all gone. One will be mailed to you. None have been mailed so far. I have never been on a coordinated bus trip like this where there has not been someone on the bus using the microphone at the front to keep everyone informed as to what is going on. although I did enjoy the limited time we had at the Shrines greatly and the box lunches were wonderful, I don’t believe I would want to travel with Travel World again, go on an Epic Tour bus again and may not want to do a Diocesan pilgrimage again. The other wonderful pilgrims we traveled with and got to meet were the best part of the trip as was the bishops homily on day two.
